Common themes emerge and form the basis of this code in the form of three fundamental principles of primacy of client/patients/ welfare, client/patients autonomy and social justice, as well as a set of definitive professional responsibilities. The PITAHC developed the Code of Ethics of Medical Naturopaths to ensure that physicians who had attained the credentials are aware of the existence of high standards of practice for the profession and are committed in upholding those standards. Also, the Code is meant to assist members of the general public, including consumers, health care professionals, other health care workers and government regulatory agencies or boards in understanding the duties and responsibilities of certified medical naturopath.
